LaGaylia Frazier(ラゲイリア・フレイザー)
LaGaylia Frazier moved from USA to Sweden in 2001. Ever since she has been embraced by Swedish music lovers and media alike. For the broader audience she’s well known from numerous Tv appearances, concerts and tours.
LaGaylia’s story started in a musical family in Miami, USA. Her father Hal Frazier is an accomplished jazz singer and entertainer from the golden era of tuxedo styled show business. LaGaylia and Hal performed together in the United States as well as in Sweden; at the 2011 Stockholm Jazz Festival, at Ystad Sweden Jazz Festival and at the Jazz Museum. From the age of five LaGaylia was trained as a classical pianist and at the age of 15 she was advised to start singing. This proved to be the right choice. Her positive energy and dynamic voice have made her a highly acclaimed, versatile and respected artist.
Through the local club and radio circuit in Florida she started to build her reputation. She soon caught the attention of legendary manager Eliot Weisman – manager of Liza Minnelli, Sammy Davis JR and Frank Sinatra. She was picked from a group of singers to sing on numerous tracks in the motion picture ”The Specialist” (1994) as well as making a cameo appearance in the movies’ opening sequence. A remix of the song Shower Me With Love, a remix of the soundtrack from this movie, reached #12 on the US Billboard’s Dance Chart. LaGaylia has been signed by record moguls Chris Blackwell (Island Records) and Emilio Estefan (Sony-Crescent Moon Records).
In 1999 LaGaylia started her journey towards Sweden when her present manager, Marie Schroider, happened to see one of her concerts in Fort Lauderdale. LaGaylia began to perform in Sweden on both live and Tv circuits and immediately stole the the hearts of Sweden, making her a household name in the small but welcoming country. Throughout the years LaGaylia has toured every part of the country – as well as Norway, Denmark, Finland, Romania, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, China and performed twice at The Royal Albert Hall in London.
Her debut album, LaGaylia Uncovered, was released in 2007 to rave reviews. In 2008 she won the annual Baltic Music Festival with her song Over and Over Again. She placed 8th in the Sopot Music Festival with this song as well. LaGaylia has released 4 solo albums (incl an EP and a jazz album with Jan Lundgren Trio) and she has participated as a soloist on various compilations.
In 2010 the ”Board of the Jazz Museum Foundation” selected LaGaylia for the ”Anita O’Day Award” with the motivation: ”Versatility, musicality and irresistable senses personifies LaGaylia Frazier’s vocals. Among various styles of music, she also performs classic jazz melodies in a highly personal and compelling fashion”.
